new year's eve nails

Good evening, everyone! Almost done with my little vacation, but I'm feeling well rested and relaxed. I'm not
necessarily ready to go back to work tomorrow, but I'm feeling a lot better than I was last week at this time. At the moment, my nails are soaking with some amazing Lemony Flutter cuticle cream by one of my favorite companies, Lush.

Lush is pretty exclusive here- it's only available at a few places in my state. If you haven't found your perfect cuticle moisturizer yet, you have to try this one. It's $17 for the container, but it's a good size and lasts forever. I got mine over a month ago and have been using it regularly and you can barely tell I've used it. It's not overly greasy and it smells great.

Tonight I'm going to show y'all the manicure I wore for New Year's Eve. New Year's Eve is one of my favorite nights of the year, and I was lucky enough to spend it with my boyfriend. We spent the night at a hole in the wall dive bar, and while I complained a lot of the night, looking back it was okay.

This is two coats of OPI Black Onyx with a glitter gradient (I'm obsessed!) of China Glaze Polarized. The star is a little rhinestone I got from a Secret Santa Swap. It's from a huge set from the brand that makes Cheeky stamping plates. I love these little things, they're so cute! They shockingly stay on for about a week and they look good the whole time, too.

I loved this manicure- I wore it for over a week with minor tip wear.

What do you think? What did you wear for your NYE?

but we're never gonna survive unless we are a little crazy...

I've been MIA this week and I apologize for that! Life takes its toll on you and you lose track of your daily routine. I've been pretty busy as of late and I find myself wanting to do nothing more than just sleep. Unfortunately it never works out like that for me. I got inducted into an honors society on Friday and had an awesome dinner with my family, boyfriend and best friend. I'm pretty blessed when it comes to the support system I have. The mani I'm showing you today is the one I wore to that event.

Unfortunately right now I'm sporting naked nails. To you ladies who swatch multiple times a day (or at least it seems like that), props to you. I work two jobs, babysit, tutor, and go to school full time and try to do my nails every day but it's so hard. Ahhhhh. I went to a concert last night:

Alanis Morissette, YES she was awesome! Not quite what I was expecting. Her opening act was a rapper, who we found out was her... husband? Uh. Yup. His stage name is Souleye, look for his stuff on Youtube! He sort of reminds me of Channing Tatum. I think he's cute. The two are adorbs together.

Alright, back on topic.. here is the mani I am showing you today!

For my base, I used three coats of Zoya Ivanka. I sponged on top of Ivanka with China Glaze Optical Illusion, from the Prismatics Collection. Ivanka is as gorgeous as in pictures, but I didn't like how sheer it was. I thought it would build up better and be almost opaque in one or two coats, but it took three. Not a huge deal, and worth it for the beautiful shade, but I thought I'd throw that in there. Optical Illusion is yet another gorgeous Prismatic. I wasn't sure how I'd wear this one because it's green and not as versatile as the others (fun fact: green is my favorite color but I more or less hate green polish. Hmph.).
I like this look I came up with, and I got a lot of compliments on it. It gave me something to stare at while I was sitting on stage during the BORING awards ceremony last Friday, that's for sure!

inspired by... gray cheetah

Hello hello! Happy Friday! As of late I haven't been working on Fridays, just babysitting for a few hours. So glorious! Especially with my newfound constant headaches. I had a CT scan yesterday for them so hopefully we can find out what's wrong. Not sure if it's due to nerves or something but I haven't been able to get much good sleep the past few nights, most especially last night. It was a battle the whole night. I just felt like shit and kept waking up every hour, nearly right on the hour. Ugh.

Now for the good news, I got the job I interviewed for the other day. It's at a beauty supply store that sells OPI, Zoya, China Glaze, Essie, Color Club, pretty much everything. AhHhHhHh.. I am so excited. I get everything either 50% off or at cost... come to mama, OPI! I can't wait. It's only part-time, so probably like 20 hours or so, but that's okay. :D

Today's manicure was inspired by this bracelet:

Gray cheetah print is really popular in clothing and accessories, and it's something I've never attempted before. I really like how this came out. I just wish I had a lighter gray to use as the base, and use the gray I did use for accents on the cheetah print with the black. I used two coats of Essie Power Clutch from last year's fall collection, my one and only gray. The black is Fingerpaints Black Expressionism and I sponged on China Glaze Silver Lining on my thumb, pointer and pinky. I used the same silver glitter to accent the cheetah.

interviews and headaches: my current life

I've got a job interview today! Wahoo! I'm reallyreallyreally excited for this one. I'll give you more details after; I would hate to jynx anything. I'm currently trying to dry my hair AND write this blog post at the same time... failing miserably at that.

The following manicure is what I'm wearing to my interview. I like how the colors look together but I'm pissed I didn't do something more impressive. I planned to re-do it today but I seriously feel like shit and can't bring myself to fix them. That and a lack of time. I'm not sure why but I've had unbearable, painful headaches for about two or three weeks. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to get to the bottom of things. Can't wait, cause it's absolutely ridic. It messes up my ability to do pretty much anything and everything. Working for four hours this morning was nearly the death of me.

Okay Emily, enough rambling. Here's my notd:

The top is a bit more color accurate. That picture was taken outdoors while the bottom is pictured under artificial light. This is two coats of Essence Gorgeous Bling Bling. Wtf is with that name? Yeah, I'm not sure either.. where Essence lacks in the name department, they make up for everywhere else. This shade is FREAKING GORGEOUS and I love the new bottles. The caps screw on so nicely and they have an extra little click so you know they're closed completely (you'll know what I mean if you have any of the new bottles yet). Not to mention how absolutely gorgeous and perfect for fall this shade is. It's got some gorgeous flakies too, sort of covered up by the China Glaze I'm Not Lion I added on, but at least you can see the flakies in the bottle in the bottom picture. This manicure just feels right for the current season.

Tell me: what do you think?

pastel tribal nails

Not feeling too talkative so I'll get right into my notd. I was feeling very inspired last night. I originally planned to do a solid nude color with black stamping, but I saw this manicure using the exact same stamp I planned to use and I loved this way more.

For this manicure, I started off with a base of OPI Alpine Snow- just one coat. I then painted on stripes with my three pastel colors. Using white under any polish will simply make it brighter on the nail. I started painting without a white base and I just didn't like how it looked.

On the bottom-most part of my nail near the cuticle is Piggy Polish Poet-tree. The middle is Essie Tart Deco, and the top (and bottle shown in my pictures) is China Glaze For Audrey. I started with the green, then did the blue. I then went halfway between the two to add a stripe of the coral. All of that polish looked pretty clumpy, but I smoothed it out with a coat of Seche Vite (after letting it dry a long time; no way was I gonna mess this one up). After waiting a while, I stamped using Fingerpaints Black Expressionism with bundle monster image plate #315. I love this image! Absolutely love it.

All of the polish I used cooperated quite well. I have no complaints with this manicure. In some areas my stamping was a little funny but I've gotten so many compliments on this manicure; others don't really notice the imperfections quite like your own self does.

What do you think? Do you like my color choice? What about the tribal look?

blue gradient... my lucky manicure?

Ever since I did this manicure yesterday I've had really awesome luck.. I think I'm going to give my nails the credit! Life is heading in a really great direction. I just got two job interviews set up, one for this week and one for next week. I don't want to ruin anything before I decide on one, so I'll fill you in on the details once I have my interviews! Both are just part-time jobs while I'm in school, but I'm excited.

I also just started a new babysitting/nannying job which is going to be completely amazing. I can't begin to tell you how awesome it is. Well, I suppose I could. The family has two little girls, and just moved here from Europe eight months ago. They're very affluent and I'm very excited. It's amazing to have a plan, even if it is going to be jam-packed with a million different things.

Here's the lucky mani:

This is two coats of China Glaze Aquadelic sponged with OPI Fly using a makeup sponge. These colors look really cool together. The gradient isn't perfect but I actually like it like that. I've gotten several compliments on these, probably because the colors are stunning and eye-catching.

Day 13: ANIMAL PRINT

Hi everyone! It's Thursday, and a GREAT one at that! My last class of the day was cancelled, and I don't have to work today because I'm going to a concert tonight! Yup, another country concert.. I've gone to at least thirteen this year. Definitely my guilty pleasure (besides nail polish...).

I wanted to do a sort of... closure manicure. Closure of the end of summer. The last full out neon manicure before they sit in my melmers until next spring/summer. Not that I strictly follow color/season rules but I like wearing darker colors in the fall and winter. Here's what I came up with.

I used Nina Ultra Pro Solar Flare and China Glaze Pool Party. I have a serious weakness for China Glaze neons.. they are just beautiful! This manicure didn't photograph too well. I personally like how it looks in person better. I used Konad stamp m57, which had both a zebra and a cheetah print stamp. I used Fingerpaints Black Expressionism to stamp. This manicure is so much fun. I actually really like the yellow. I layered two coats of each polish over two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. Using white for a base under neons makes them really really bright, as you can see above.

Day 12: STRIPES

Hey hey! :) Happy hump day. I worked a realllly short shift today and planned to be super productive afterwards... that plan completely died. I came home and got pizza for lunch with my mom. We watched The Voice while we ate lunch. It was nice to spend some time together. :o) Not to mention I am becoming obsessed with The Voice. Arrrgh! Blake Shelton + Adam Levine.. and Michael Buble is joining the mix as a mentor... can it get any better? I'm in a picture mood today... here is Blakie & Adam if you have no idea who I'm talking about (or if you want a photographic reminder ;D).

YUM. I will take the both of them. But mainly Blake. Really.

I've seen Michael Buble in concert twice. The second time, we were in the 2nd row and I touched his
hand as he walked by. By touched, I actually mean grabbed & wouldn't let go of. *swoon*

Ok. Done swooning. Back on task, back on task. I did like three different manicures for this striped theme but the first two sucked. My Seche kept ruining them.. and the colors weren't working out. So, I decided to revert back to what I like to call old faithful:

This is Essie Ole Caliente and China Glaze I'm Not Lion. I'm practically obsessed with how these two polishes look together. I can't even handle it. =O I'm just in awe. I've never striped it like this before, but I figured why not go for the gold. This was so easy to do. I slapped on a few coats of polish, a layer of Poshe (because Seche is being pissy), then used Scotch tape to add the lines. I love the middle two fingers where there's just one vertical line. So cute!

Let me leave you with a REALLY funny picture. I found this one when I was browsing on my Facebook for a picture of Michael Buble. This was my OPI stash circa April 2011. This means I've accumulated over 400 polishes in about seventeen months....

My caption on Facebook for this one was "This is $100 worth of polish..I think I have a problem" HAHA!

Day 11: POLKA DOTS

Wooo POLKA DOTS! Today's challenge theme gives me a chance to use my dotting tool for the first time. Yup- that's the extent of my dotting tool skills. I seriously give props to all of you amazing artists who can use a dotting tool to conjure up nail art. I think it's crazy insane. I'm sure I'd be ok at it if I practiced... but I'm just not patient enough.

For today's manicure, I was inspired by an old dress that I saw at my best friend's house. We were reminiscing looking at older pictures (we've known eachother since we were 5- that's 15 years, WHOA) and she saw one from our junior prom. Of course, that led to a twenty minute dress up sesh and it ended up in this brown dress with light blue polka dots that she actually wore to my sweet sixteen. I'd show you a picture from my sweet sixteen but my Facebook is acting up- darn. ;P I remember begging my parents for a big party and they insisted I didn't need one. Of course, I was able to convince them otherwise. Those were the days.

I don't like how my fingers look in this one, but I wanted a good sunshiney picture
to show you the beautiful orange shimmer in SpaRitual Howl
.

For this manicure I used two coats of SpaRitual Howl. I never understood why it was called Howl when I first got it, but I noticed the orange shimmer today. DUH, Halloween polish! Side note: I freaking love Halloween polish. It makes me feel so nostalgic and reminiscent of my childhood. Love, love, love!

I'll definitely be wearing Howl again sometime soon because I loved it. I am always so impressed by the formula of SpaRitual polishes. A polish's formula can either make or break a manicure, and this polish went on like satin. It applied perfectly. I want more SpaRituals, but I'm just not crazy about a whole lot of their shades.

The dots and bow are done with China Glaze For Audrey and my dotting tool from Sephora. Of course, you don't need to actually buy a dotting tool. Polka dots can be made with toothpicks or even the head of a sewing needle.

I'm in love with this manicure. I don't want to take it off. It's so much fun and so girly! What do you think?

Day 9: RAINBOW

Happy Sunday, my fellow polish fiends! Today is day nine of the challenge! For today, the theme is rainbow! I can honestly say I've never done a full-out rainbow manicure. There's gotta be a first for everything, right?!

To me, the "rainbow" idea is a little daunting because of how many colors it requires... I am not an artistic person, and sometimes matching colors is hard for me (i.e. which "purple" or "green" is right). I was a little nervous about this challenge day. The fact that there was so much creative liberty scared me. Red is red. Blue is blue. Polka dots are polka dots. Stripes are stripes. But rainbow? You can do anything with rainbow. Ahhhh! The possibilities are endless.

I ended up with a rainbow base and a black stamped manicure. Check it out.

My first thought process was.. roygbiv = 7, my fingers = 5. This is where the idea to do half-colors on my nails came from. Then... I stamped.

I'll list the colors I used from pinky->thumb:

pinky: OPI Overexposed In South Beach, Love & Beauty Dark Purple
ring finger: China Glaze Shower Together, Brash Electric Sky
middle finger: OPI Don't Mess With OPI, Piggy Polish Poet-Tree
pointer: Zoya Pippa, Essie Meet Me At Sunset
thumb: Essie Ole Caliente, Cult Nails Evil Queen

HOLY POLISH! I've never used this many colors in one manicure! It was a lot of fun to do, though, that's for sure. I used however many coats it took to reach full opacity. For the yellow, it was a few more than for the red. Actually, I only used one coat for my thumb nail- Cult Nails polishes rock!

I stamped with bm-205. I really like this butterfly/bow-looking image. It looks whimsy & fun over the rainbow design, something different.

What do you think? Are you wearing rainbow today, too?

Day 6: VIOLET

Hi guys! A very last minute post tonight- almost forgot to get this one up here! I'm laying in bed as I type this too. I'm glad I remembered. I've been in a not so great mood for a few days, so I've been trying to do some soul-searching. I did this mani this morning after my homework (yuck). I wanted to do something really intricate but for some reason stamping just wasn't working for me. It was lame. Ah well. I ended up with a solid color.

This is two coats of China Glaze Grape Juice. Great application, great color! I'm happy with it- nothing more, nothing less. What do you think?

The Nail Files: Girly Gradient

Happy Friday! I've been having internet problems at home all day, and the guy won't be out to fix it until Sunday... very crappy. I was so excited to post this manicure, too. All is well, though- I'm at my best friend's house using her internet! ;D It was pretty quiet at work earlier so I managed to do this manicure at work. At first I thought it looked really bad but then I fell in love with it. Check it out!

I got a pedicure today! OPI Danke-Shiny Red! from the Germany collection- stunning!

What I used for this manicure was three coats of Catrice Just Married and a sponged glitter gradient of China Glaze I'm Not Lion. This is one of my favorite manicures I've done in a while... but I feel like I say that every time I do my nails. I just really like glitter gradients. They're a really easy way to add a touch of class to a mani.

Just Married was really spotty. The formula was great but the polish was sheer and hard to build up. Three coats was ok but I don't think it would've looked good enough to do on its own. I bought this polish from a blog sale mainly for the name- it reminds me of the Ashton Kutcher movie, Just Married. Mmm, mmm, mmm. Ashton will forever be my fave. As for I'm Not Lion, I freaking LOVE this polish. Definitely one of my favorites for 2012. Don't you agree?

Also... I'm planning to participate in the 31 Day Challenge! You may see the first post back-dated for a few reasons.. 1 being how much I love this manicure & I don't want to take it off, 2 being that my internet will be down until Sunday. Here's the template for the challenge!

A bunch of bloggers are participating and I'm excited. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up! Like I said, be on the lookout for my first post on Sunday. Will you be joining me?!

You can't win them all.

Happy Tuesday! Today is the first off two consecutive days off! Woo! That never happens. My boss took an impromptu mini vacation. Normally I'd be annoyed at the lack of hours, but I don't have the slightest care in the world. I worked over twelve hours yesterday, so it'll be nice to throw on a sundress and relax today! :) I'm actually getting ready to go see my boy right now.. he just got back from a long weekend at the beach and I'm excited to see him! Running late as usual (I had to paint my nails...), so I decided to put up a post while my new manicure dries!

This is what I just took off of my nails-

Pictured is two coats of each: China Glaze Splish Splash and on my accent nail China Glaze Flying Dragon. I thought these would play really nicely together because there's this really cool blue glitter in Flying Dragon. Unfortunately it just doesn't transfer on to the nail like it looks in the bottle. Splish Splash is really gorgeous. Unfortunately, this manicure chipped the same day I put it on.. not cool. Any polish that chips that instantly is immediately removed from my stash. I need long weartime, not chips once I put it on.

This did me well for a few hours, but it's not something I'd wear again. What do you think?

China Glaze Prism

Love, love, love. Love, love, love! And some more love for this polish. I had a pretty crappy day today at work, and I'd like to say that this polish is the silver lining to my day. Yup, sounds about right. I'm in between shifts right now- I work 9-3/4 and then 5-9:30 on Saturdays. Long days, but pretty good money. I have no complaints. I actually get a Sunday off tomorrow! :D So excited. I have a birthday party to go to and I can't wait! It'll be nice to have the day off.

In other news... I switched over to my own domain yesterday! Instead of having to type out embellishednails.blogspot.com, all you have to do is put www.emilysnails.com into your browser! So exciting!

Today I'm showing you China Glaze Prism. I wasn't sold on this collection when I first saw swatches. Not sure what I was thinking because these polishes are GORGEOUS. This polish is the holy grail of the collection. Especially because purple is my favorite color!

Shown: two coats of OPI Purple with a Purpose and one coat of China Glaze Prism

What do you think? Do you own any of this collection? I hope you all have a great weekend!

Breakfast at Tiffany's

I ended up re-doing my beach manicure. Sometimes I get really motivated at night to do my nails, so I overhauled my mani and pedi before the beach! Just getting this post up now because Photobucket has been sucking. When I was at Transdesign I bought both For Audrey and Aquadelic (both China Glaze). I was trying to decide which of these to use, but decided to go with Aquadelic because it's a little brighter. Both of these colors just scream Tiffany's blue to me.

Any gift in a blue box is ok by me. Anyway, back to the mani... instead of pairing the blue with the white like you see on these boxes, I decided to do silver:

My hot pink toesies are done with China Glaze Pool Party!

Feeling artsy, lol..

I used China Glaze Aquadelic and China Glaze Silver Lining on my accent nail. I spotted this silver glitter on a blog sale and knew I had to get it... sort of an inside joke between my best friends and I, ha! I'm huge on polish names... even if I don't like the color, if I like the name of a polish I'll purchase it in a heartbeat.

I know this mani isn't exactly Tiffany's blue- I have colors that match more perfectly (think ChG For Audrey and Chanel Nouvelle Vague) but I wanted to use a brighter version and I'm glad I did. I love simple manis like this, and I am currently LOVING the juxtaposition of pairing a glitter and a creme! They just work so well together!!

What do you think?!

Let's go to the beach, beach!

Yep, I just quoted a Nicki Minaj song! That's because I'm going to the beach tomorrow! Wheeeee! Now as most of you know, I'm definitely a country girl when it comes to my taste in music. Buuut, whenever I'm at the gym I always listen to Nicki Minaj-esque music. This is the first song lyric that pops into my head when I think about the beach (of course right as I'm posting this, a Nicki song comes up on shuffle. hahahaha). So excited!

I wanted to do a more beachy manicure... everyone is posting fall collections and I am not ready for summer to end !!! I love the summer, and it always freaking flies by. Ugh. Here's a simple summery manicure:

This is Color Club Space Cadet. I have China Glaze Hang-Ten Toes. I stamped with Nina Ultra Pro Black. I like this Color Club color, it's so girly & fun. Application wasn't bad either. What do you think?
